Well here we are (29/03) just inside the Victorian side of the Vic SA border at a free campsite called Pinaster. Its about 1km inside the border Vic side on the Princess Highway A1. Bet you cant find in in any of your books. We only found it by talking to a couple of forestry workers when we drove down the Princess Margaret Rose Caves road looking for another free camp which we found as had the four million ants that inhabitited the area. Pinaster is right on the highway under a heap of big pine trees. If you didnt know it was here you would go right past it.

Dunedoo-After the long drive from Taree to Dubbo |
Anyway as mentioned in the first episode we got to Dubbo on the 18 Feb ( bloody long time ago now).
We got there pretty late so pitched camp at the Dubbo city cvan park just over the river. Big 8 ft fences with lots of barbed wire on the top. We were later to find out that they had in the past had some problems with roudy locals. It was a very clean park with security gates and midnight security runs through the park. Good camp kitchen and amenities with adequate children play areas to keep them amused.

On the 19th Feb we went to Dubbo Zoo (bloody hot) and had a look at all the foriegn and exotic animals that they have there. The koalas had the best deal of all- they had a nice little fenced area with lots of fresh gum leaves and a nice little sundeck for the cool days and a fine water mist area for when they get too hot. Not a bad deal at all for the three of them. Some of the animals were a bit reluctant to be observed and rightly so because it was bloody hot. Some other choice animals were the giraffes , otters , simeon monkeys that made a hell of a noise, elephants that were a bit on the aged side and the rhinos. We later found out that the park is owned by Taronga Zoo so they put all their older animals out at Dubbo as retirement so they are generally to old and arthritic to dance around all day unless they are being fed or doing tricks fore the keepers.

No explanation required really for this iconic place. |

On the 20 Feb we headed back to the zoo for another quick look and then headed out of town on the Mitchell highway towards Bathurst. On the way we had a chance encounter with Gary Hooper and Lottie (who was slightly calmer than normal after some relaxing medications) who was returning from Canberra at Andy and Dan's place. We caught up with him at Molong for a bit and then continued on Bathurst for a look. We did the track here of course. How could we not? Stopped up the top and had lunch. Very different from seeing it on tele all those times and gives even more reason to watch the V8s hammer around it at a great rate of knots. Hervey made it up with no probs although he did find 3rd and maybe even 2nd towards the top. I had been having some water probs with Hervey and all the big bloody hills around the place wwerent helping but he handled it well. We got to the Blue mountrains in the arvo and headed down into Megalong Valley after turning off at Blackheath- a nice little town at the top of the range just East of the Jenolan caves turnoff. Some very steep and long hills that definitely had Hervey finding 2nd and Bay didnt help dragging him down as he was trying to get up them but they worked it out between them in the end. Megalong valley campsite is another that you would never find if you didnt know about it. Several backpackers there the two nights we were there so it must be in a book somewhere.
Battery running low on laptop so will post this and try to continue tomorrow.
